Hi
I can safely say that I am a huge fan of Twitter. It took me a while to get the hang of it but now I love it and I LOVE reading tweets from other VAs. It even looks like I might get a client out of it.........BUT - while I might post a wee sales Tweet every now and then, I dont think I over-do it. In fact - I now definitely wont 'cos I've become so irritated with constant sales Tweets for someone I was following that I've had to block them! Its a shame as I was keen to gleen lots of information from them and develop a professional relationship that might be of mutual benefit. Obviously, I'm not going to say who this is but has ananyone else experienced this?....

Yes a few times. It's such a shame as Twitter is all about relationship building and very supportive. Pure advertising is no better than spam and adds little to the purpose of twitter.

I've unfollowed a number of people who do this, not just VAs.

The VA community on Twitter does appear to be very friendly and supportive as a whole, it's a shame some people miss the point.

Yes - on the whole, I do find chatting with other VAs (and other professionals) very useful and fun but I just got so irritated by the constant sales Tweets that - like you say - are just like spam. Shame really.

I have to agree with you and I also think I know the VA you are talking about and I might be doing the same thing as well - I am getting about 20-30 sales pitches a day from this one and it is driving me crazy.

I think she has some kind of automatic tweet thing going on. I sent her a really nice direct message (well, i thought it was nice anyway!) about all the messages but she never replied which says a lot!

I've unfollowed who I think was the same VA!

She is using auto tweet I think. The one I'm talking about had a couple of thousand followers and I'm not sure how or why as it was constant selling!

Yep, think I know who you mean and I'm about to block them too...

Getting your message out there is one thing but I don't get to see anything else and I feel I might be missing something interesting - hers are constant!!!

See I'm wondering if maybe she's scheduling the same tweets at different times of day so that different sets of people see them - so let's say the message is "Don't forget to buy our excellent widget" you might schedule it at 9am for those morning twitterers, lunchtime for break twittering, and evening for home-based tweets.

But then that's super annoying if you see all the tweets and get all 3 of them! Perhaps the thing to do in automating them is to organise the tweet is sent say on different weeks at different times? So 1st May @ 9am the tweet is sent in the morning, 7th May it's repeated at lunchtime and 14th May it's sent at 7pm..... Would it be as annoying if it was a re-tweet less frequently or is it simply the volume which is annoying?

(I'm simply playing devil's advocate here - I'm actually interested in how people use twitter generally because I'm not sure there is a status quo there yet...)

I think your idea Caroline is a better one the same message once a week at different times during the day is not so bad - but if you are following that person and get hounded by the same message day in day out it is very annoying.

I only go there about once a week (sorry, I know that's not the whole idea) and did find a whole ton of messages from a VA, some the same within seconds of each other.

Are we talking about a fairly high profile VA? If we are, I think I will also be blocking her as I really can't be bothered with the messages which are unending.

Agreed and I know the VA you are talking about. Maybe it works for her? She may not be looking to use Twitter as others or maybe she just doesn't understand it?

Carolines is a good idea but if you save a tweet as a favourite you can re tweet it whenever you like. I don't use automated Tweets and I also don't like Twitterfeed (I block anyone using it! Sorry!)
