VA Star: Michelle of Admin Virtual Assistant

Firstly a big thank you to Caroline for having me as a VA Star here, it’s lovely to find a supportive community to share our experiences and help.

I’ve got the bare bones up on my website.  I had a learning curve with WordPress – I’ve edited and written in it before, but not actually setup a site with it, so that was interesting 😉  I’d love feedback on my website please.  My plans are to add mixed media in the next couple of weeks, so there will be a YouTube video on there…any hints or tips on that would also be great.

Last week I was busy networking and met some truly inspiring people.  I was fortunate to meet and have a lengthy discussion with the founder of Enterprising Women, Bev Hurley, who gave me some very valuable ideas and insights about the services I provide and where I should provide them.  The main point I’m struggling on is finding a niche and how to market it.  Having had my share of bumps and start up stalls, I really need more positives right now.  I’m wondering how long it took other VAs to find their niche or market?

I’m set up on Twitter, so this week I’ll be sitting down and getting a chunk of my tweets done in advance. I’ve added social media management to the services I provide, as I’m experienced with WP, Blogger & Twitter.  I already edit behind the scenes for a WP blog, and have just taken on a Twitter account for a local resource centre.  Does anyone else offer similar services and how frequently would you say these services are needed?

I’ll also be tweaking all my paperwork and adding my logos etc this week.

I’d love your feedback on any good UK orientated books for VAs, whether it’s a book to expand on your skills, an overview or inspirational… I’ve already read an E Myth book, and have The Secret and The Power.

Are any VAs out there who are mums with children also?  How do you manage during half terms? I’ll be stopping during half term for now….work isn’t everything…although it does help our lifestyle….I haven’t quite got the balance yet.
