Hello
A slightly bizarre question for a Monday morning - are Starbucks the devil or are they simply devine?
Would you be offended to receive a Starbucks gift or are they simply a victim of their own success and much maligned?

Hi
They're ok but I prefer the coffee in Pret a Manger - great sandwiches too :)

Can't really contribute much as there ain't such establishments around here! However, we do have a Costa in Aberystwyth and it's OK. Prefer the cappuccinos at our local garden centre tho! Nice smooth coffee and lots of creamy froth in a huge mug! _________________ Carole Meyrick

Hmmm.... interesting! I thought we were going to get some rants about globalisation and evil corporations! So I guess that's a good thing.
We also asked Costa if we could do a deal but no one got back to us. Strangely enough when the Starbucks people got back to us it turned out their distribution centre is just along the road in Glasgow - bizarre!!!
An interesting exercise....

My last office job was working for a trade union who were really hot on the whole globalisation thing, definitely a no-no. But I just loved Starbucks coffee and would sometimes sneak into the local coffee shop and buy a coffee before walking back to the office. I always felt guilty about it but I thought it's my money and I can spend it where I want to. I didn't beat myself up about it but I still bought my coffee sneakily and hoped that no one from the office would see me coming out of the shop.

LOL!!!! I have this vision of you sneaking sips behind a newspaper now!
My PA banned me from going near the coffee shop when I worked in London - I'd had to do a total caffeine detox for some homeopathic medicine I was taking and after 3 months with no caffeine I was sky high on even a waft of coffee brewing. I quote "If you have one more coffee I'm going to have to kill you" - this from a very nice, mild mannered, yoga-practising girl...
Thankfully am back up to my usual caffeine addiction levels now _________________ To support SVA please donate to: http://tinyurl.com/37urec

I'm caffeine sensitive so have to have de-caf but it still tastes good.
If I have ordinary coffee it sometimes gives me palpitations. It also stops me from sleeping and when I've had a cup I'm usually still awake around 4am. It takes an awful long time to work it's way out of my system.

This is interesting! I've recently met 2 separate clients for coffee and both refused to go to Costa Coffee saying it was vile and no-one they knew in business went there.
What do they do to the coffee that offends business people?? Is it the same technique that Starbucks use??
Wow..... I just thought coffee was coffee, sometimes weak, sometimes strong, sometimes sweet, sometimes not..... but just coffee!! _________________ Carol Rothwell - CR Virtual Solutions

It's not the coffee itself, it's how it's produced. Poor farmers are paid a pittance for their crop whilst the coffee manufacturers and sellers (Starbucks etc) reap all the benefits with huge profits. I agree that farmers should be given a fair share of the profits but I still like my Starbucks and Costa Coffee cappuccinos and lattes. Mind you, if a coffee shop sells Fair Trade coffee I will buy that as a first preference, to ease my conscience.

I have just found this thread.
I am currently weaning myself off of my Starbucks addiction lol.
I love coffee, but only like it to taste very weak, so starbucks is perfect for me, as I have a one shot skinny latte and add caramel (yum)
Cafe Nero is by far the strongest coffee shop for strength of beans, even a half shot in there is hard going for me!
Costa, hmm, ok imo but nowhere as good as a SB.
You can tell I spend far too much time frequenting these places. For me, the independants are still nicer! _________________ Jools
