Thankfully I found this site in January and the information has been fantastic so thank you very much already.
Offically we have not begun, I left my job as Practice Manager of a busy City Centre GP surgery in December with the plan to take a few months off. Prior to that I have had over the years a few administration/managerial jobs which included being my own PA as well as doing the book keeping.
The day I left my job my partner was offered a 2 day contract as Head of Finance for a local company which gave him a good basis to start him of working for himself and I also had a tentative offer of some regular work so we thought why not. But I have been back for a few days to help with some hand over things at the surgery and that has been billed under Grovely but in my mind we don't really start until Chris has left his job and we are both home and ready to take on more work.
So instead of a few months off I have been sitting here starting to get the ball rolling trying to get some adverts, the website, talking to HMRC and insurers the adverts are all in and the website is nearly there so looks like we will be ready soon.
I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this before apologies if I have missed it. The majority of the parish magazines local to Wylye are funded through advertising and are very community based and are delivered to every household in the parish so they are proving to be a very useful form of advertising and getting the word out that we are here and what we can offer. And they are very reasonable.
We also have a local WiRE uk (Women in Rural Enterprise) group nearby who again have been very welcoming and have been useful for contacts. I have yet to brave the Federation of Small Business breakfast but like several have said before it is the selling yourself and networking with complete strangers that is a bit scary but I am sure the more I do the more confident I will be. But they do take up time in the day but fingers and toes crossed it will all be worth it in the end.
Good luck to everyone in 2008 and thank to everyone for their words of wisdom and ideas so far.

My family home is in Mid Wales so I do miss the mountains here but Wiltshire is fabulous and the sun has just come out so it is looking fantastic out of my office window. This is the joy of working from home the only slight hiccup is I would love to be outside in the sunshine but must get some work done. _________________ Lynda Like

Welcome Lynbo
Whereabouts in Mid Wales do your family come from? I live on the side of a hill near the Cambrian Mountains and Plynlimon. _________________ Carole Meyrick

Welcome Lynbo,
I've just recently set up myself and have also been using my local parish magazine and the little local directory/magazine to get my name "known around town". Nothing concrete yet, but friends have started mentioning that they've seen the ads, so hopefully a few clients will too.
Good luck on your new adventure!

Hi Lynbo
My husband has family around Brecon, which I love, and we have friends at Llanthony Priory which isn't far away from Hay, which I also think is one of the more interesting towns in Mid Wales. The ham and pineapple toasties from "The Granary" are to die for, and there are some really nice shops. _________________ Carole Meyrick
