Now, as many of you know I'm a bit anti-VOIP. You can usually tell with the slight delay, crackle and echo on the phones that "we're not in Kansas anymore" - or perhaps you are....

Which is great for calling granny in Australia, or your mum for 7 hours to reassure her that YES, they do have vegetables in London, but not so great for business quality calls.

However I'm happy to say we've just switched over and it's sounding FANTASTIC! I have been conducting many trials over the last couple of months sending people to stand in the car park, calling from mobiles, other VOIP phones, Italy, from the car....you name it!

I've been researching various different options - hybrid systems, hosted solutions, extra broadband speed, gizmos giving voice data priority over digital data, different providers. It's been a long struggle.

Basically whilst most people switch to VOIP to save money on their calls we were switching to have extra flexibility (as our phone bills are mega discounted anyway so switching was actually more expensive).

Anyway, just wanted to say I'm a rather happy bunny this morning with a new gadget - hurrah!

I too am being slowly introduced to the wonders of VOIP. I'm fortunate in that the guy I've worked for for the last 10 years has set up with Skype Pro for the business. This means he pays the bill but I get free outgoing calls to all landlines in the UK! Happy bunny or what! Laughing

Caroline, you haven't said what your solution is and what configuration (ie have you gone for any bells & whistles) and who the lucky provider is that has passed all these stringent tests.

Ah - we have gone for voipfone.co.uk with their virtual PBX using SNOM handsets.

We love the easy configuration - magic stuff! Just testing out all the gizmos at the moment, altho we're probably going to add "Call Me Back" buttons to the website and some other cool stuff for the clients too...

Actually some of them got mega excited and have bought extra numbers and are testing out different regional / free numbers for the very first time! The majority of the clients won't notice any difference though - which was the main aim!

The technical team are really, really good and VERY patient too - excellent customer service all round, a rarity these days!

Caroline,

Its great that you decided to bite the bullet and go for it, the team are great, I can assure of that after speaking to Sean many times.

I am also considering adding Call Waiting so that callers will find out where they are in the queue for busy periods when the phone is ringing off the hook.
