How many of you have a 'News' page on your website and keep it up to date?
I tend to use mine for major news items - Charity of the Year announcements, VA Finalist etc.
I am now thinking of putting a link on my Company Website to direct people to my Facebook Business Page and updating that area with more general content. Would it be better to remove the 'News' page altogether - anyone any views on that? _________________ Heather Greig

Hi Heather
Couple of pointers on this:
Firstly, my personal view when visiting a website with a news page is that it looks awful if it's not up to date (and yes, I am most certainly guilty of that myself!!). So if you're going to have it, it needs to be up to date.
However, from a technical point of view (and geeky people, please jump in here if I'm wrong...) I believe that Google won't recognise the updates and credit your website SEO with them, since they are hosted on Facebook, not your domain. A better way of doing it might be to use an RSS feed to power both Facebook and your news page so that the keywords and fresh content gets uploaded to your domain and Google "sees" an update. _________________ To support SVA please donate to: http://tinyurl.com/37urec |

Thanks Caroline - something else for me to learn then - I haven't used RSS Feeds before I will have a look and see what I can find.
I totally agree that the News page needs to be current there is nothing worse than looking at something from years ago. (I need to update mine!)
I wanted to keep Facebook for the general information - like buy your postage stamps before the price increase, that type of thing, and keep the website for larger announcements, but I will have a look at the RSS option. _________________ Heather Greig

Keep your on page News. As Caroline mentioned, having a frequent stream of fresh relevant content on your site looks great in the eyes of Google and really helps to boost your site. Content is great for your visitors (remember, not all will have Facebook or be interested in visiting Facebook even if it's from your site). _________________ Laura :)
