Hi all

I'm new to the VA world and joined this forum for help/tips etc. I also hope to be able to help others where possible.

A bit about me. I have been made redundant three times since 2007 and decided it was time to take matters into my own hands to a degree.

I started working via some of the outsourcing websites back in May this year but as I'm sure you are all aware the pay is low so I'm looking to find UK clients on a more professional basis.

I have a website www.amcsecretarial.com which I put up a few months ago and it has given me one client. I am looking to move my website to a different provider in the next month or so and effectively rebuild it to hopefully generate more traffic/leads.

I've also got a business mentor through the local Chamber of Commerce who is great however has no knowledge of this industry.

Anyway I'm looking forward to joining in on the forum and to eventually be able to give back as much as I gain.

Alison

3rd time lucky Alison! Weirdly I think a lot of people have the universe tell them something before starting their own business. And sometimes it's that you'd rather be in charge of getting and keeping those clients than rely on someone else doing their job properly!

Thanks for the messages.

Caroline, yes I think you're right. I'd thought about going it alone for a while but when the redundancy letter came in I though what have I got to lose. Everything happens for a reason right?

I have to admit, yes, I believe everything does happen for a reason - even if you don't see the reason for years, it will become clear in the end.

The challenges are there to strengthen us to make us able to cope with the bigger challenges in the future, and to be able to give us a different perspective and the ability to give advice, should any of our friends/colleagues be faced with a similar challenge.

And just as importantly, the good things happen to give us good memories and strengthen our empathy to want others to have good things happen to them, to make us want more good things to happen (for us and others) and be nicer people as a result - and if you're a nice person, nice things happen due to khama! :)

Best of luck for the future. :)

Hi Alison,

My goodness, 3 times since 2007 - your heart must have really sunk the 2nd and 3rd time. Still, they are the stepping stones that got you to where you are now. You have done the right thing...no more of those letters from now on!

Welcome to the SVA and best of luck!
Lisa.

To be honest the 2nd a 3rd letters weren't as bad as the 1st. That one came out of the blue, at least the latter two I was prepared for (even if they did manage to manipulate the dates so they didn't owe me redundancy pay for the sake of 3 days ... but that's another story)

I'm hoping that your comment of good things coming to the nice people, it would be about time. Although I'm a firm believer that things won't happen if you just wait for them. I know that to make the good happen I've got to go out there and make it happen. A little kharma nudge wouldn't hurt though, right?

Anyway, thanks again for the replies, it's nice to meet others who are in the same line of work/been through the start up process.

Alison :)
