Well last week I waved goodbye to my baby as he started nursey 2 mornings a week (he is 2) and today I waved goodbye to my oldest as he started his first day at school (well half day - he doesn't start full time for 2 weeks).
I stood in the queue with the parents in reception area waiting for the teacher to come and collect them and all of a sudden I could not find Matthew, he was so excited he ran past me to the front of the queue when the library door opened - not a goodbye Mum, see you later or anything.
I am glad he had not problems going to school but a little bit of "goodbye Mum" would have been nice.
Hopefully tomorrow will go just as smoothly. _________________ Charlotte Burford

Charlotte - I remember when my two started Nursery/Primary School as though it was yesterday - now they are in 5th year and Lower 6th.
I remember feeling redundant - and also finding it hard to accept that someone else was now playing such a major role in their life.
Don't worry you will still be the one they run to when something goes wrong, they need homework done, someone has been nasty to them in the playground, etc. etc. In fact my step-daughter who is now 27 and a Mum herself still comes round to ask advice!!
It does get easier with time - honest! _________________ Heather Greig

Well today did go better.
I managed to get a goodbye Mum and he has his first piece of homework for tonight a reading book or should I say a picture book to read. _________________ Charlotte Burford

I remember first day all too clearly - how they have grown since then.
Aidan is now a strapping 6ft, House Captain and with his first girlfriend lurking somewhere in the background (I'm not officially supposed to know) - aww bless. Before we know it he will be off ... the house will be quieter and calmer but there will be a gaping great hole in our lives.
Unfortunately once they start school there are an awful lot of influences that you probably wouldn't choose for your child. The trick is to try to get them to ignore the worst ones and stay on the straight & narrow. Ha!! _________________ Sally
