Hi - I need help!
I joined Twitter a few months ago because (I'm ashamed to say!) everyone was doing it! But to be honest I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing on it. Even though I'm only in my mid 30's, I feel really old as I just don't get it!
I've read the help guides that are out there but to no avail!
All I'm doing on it is following people and linking to my blog on my website. I'm not really "connecting" with people so I don't understand how it can help me.
Am I the only one who is a dinosaur when it comes to "techy" things? I'm the same when it comes to Facebook, the only reason I joined that was to play their games! Sad
Am I beyond help now?!

Hi Sharon,

There is a really useful guide on how to use Twitter for business on Sally Walkers media labs blog - she is a really useful person to follow on Twitter too.
http://www.sallywalker.me.uk/category/blog/

I'm fairly new to the Twitter world (and VA world) too and I think the best thing to do is follow people that will be useful to start with such as other VA's see how they use it. SVA is on Twitter http://twitter.com/SocietyOfVAs
Retweet useful things other people have tweeted, and try not to spam peoples Twitter page by putting on too much advertising!

There was a guide on here for Twitter but the link doesn't work now!
Maybe this should be a blog post for the new site...

Also being in my early-mid thirties ;) I'm having to learn so much, I feel like I'm 17 and at school again...not a bad thing I suppose!!!

Good luck!

Yep - I'm so with you there. I have no idea....

I know that this may be a bit far for some of you but I am attending a training course on Tuesday afternoon arranged by the BforB networking Group for Social Media Training.

It is £70 at the Chester Ramda Hotel.

If anybody is interested there are places left so let me know and I can get you booked in.

Suzi

Suzi - afraid Chester is a bit too far for me Very Happy (otherwise I would!)

There's also a really good book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1906465703?ie=utf8&tag=scottishvirtu-21&linkcode=as2&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeasin=1906465703

We featured this a couple of month's back on the SVA newsletter and I rather like it because he starts out with WHO SHOULDN'T have a social media presence. I rather liked it because it is for non-techies who are feeling pressure to conform to "I must have a social media presence". Great book!
