This question is about posting replies to private messages on the SVA website and I apologise if it's daft ...

On the SVA website, I received a private message and I posted a reply and clicked Submit and saw a message that said something like "your message has been posted" but my reply now appears in my Outbox rather than in my Sentbox.

Does anyone know why my reply appears in the Outbox not in the Sentbox?

Does this mean it hasn't been sent?

Idea

Or do my replies stay in the Outbox until they have been read by the recipient, at which point they move themselves to the Sent box?

It stays in your Outbox until the recipient reads it I think.

Not sure if it is when they've read it. I know it can take a wee while before it moves from the Outbox to Sent (may just be the way the system works as it gives you time to change it before it finally goes). Took me a while to figure that out tho' so you're not the only one. :)
