Today is my last day before I go off on maternity leave, and I can't wait. It has been one of those weeks and I will be glad of the rest.

Ill keep you all posted on whether its a boy/girl and will be popping on every now and then but not as much as normal. Ill therefore catch up again with you all later in the year.

Lyndsey
I hope that you don't have to wait too long for the wee one to put in his or her appearance (both mine were 2 weeks' overdue!!). Rest well in the time that you have - indulge in some treats for youself. I hope that all goes well with the birth (gas and air, gas and air ...!) - take in plenty of snacks to keep you going!

best wishes
Alison

Good Luck Lyndsey and like Alison says, take it easy.

The best piece of advise I ever received was to sleep when baby sleeps. You feel like you should go and do those dishes or fold the washing while baby is asleep but don't do it. Rest instead.

I breastfed with both my children and they had 2 hourly feeds during the day for the first few months (i.e breakfast at 8, then snack at 10, then lunch at 12 etc) so I felt like I was doing nothing but feeding, changing nappies and sleeping.... Ah those were the days - believe it or not, I miss them. You can kinda ignore the world for a bit and get to know your baby.

Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.

I fully concur with the "sleep when baby sleeps" and leave the "ironing & dishes". It takes a while for the hormones to settle back down, so plenty of rest is essential.

I had a nightlight in our room and breastfed - this helps to prevent baby waking up and screaming the house down by the time you've made up the formula, it also helps to get you both to get back to sleep quicker!!

You're going to laugh at this - cabbage leaves down the bra are great to keep you cool. I'd never heard of it before mine were born, but it works a treat (although it looks very strange) Laughing

Best wishes Lyndsey.

And I agree with the cabbage leaves, especially when they are just out the fridge! I do voluntary work as a Breastfeeding Helper so feel free to get in touch if this is what you decide to do and you need any support. Believe me, it DOES get easier. It's one of the best things I have ever done.

All the very best Lyndsey. I sometimes still yearn for the 'quiet' time I had with my children during the breastfeeding late at night, and especially just at dawn when everyone else was fast asleep - and they are now 14 and 15!!

Enjoy every moment when your new bundle of joy arrives. Very Happy
