|
|
My parents have gone off on holiday and I am covering some of my dad's work in his absence. I am an end user of Excel and know nothing about programming it, which I know dad has done.
The job involves invoicing using a set of 4 spreadsheets which use pivot tables (whatever they are). I have to refresh one one of the files and when I do so I get an error message saying that it "Cannot open Pivot Table source file xxx". The xxx is the file path on my dad's computer to where the files are stored. I have tried to set up that path on my computer but I'm using Windows Vista and it won't let me create the folder Documents and Settings on the C drive. It looks to me like I need to work out how to tell the Refresh where to look on my computer for the files it needs for this pivot table.
Does anyone know how to do this in Excel 2007 and can tell me in simple terms?
Fortunately the client only wants me to do one invoice today by next week I will have a whole months worth of invoices so it's vital I get this sorted today. _________________ Regards

In the absence of help, desperation and urgency have led to a resolution.
I've installed Office 2007 on my Windows XP laptop, created a user and directories to replicate the path my dad used and have got everything working. To do the rest of the work while he enjoys his three weeks in China I'll just have to use my laptop - at least it works. _________________ Regards

Glad you got this sorted. You need to redo the link to the source file and have the source file stored in an area the computer you are using can access otherwise the pivot table loses it's links and breaks. A pivot table is just a way of dealing with large amounts of data in a usable format. If replicating the directory structure on your laptop works then I would stick with that. _________________ Charley

Thanks, Charley - I have no idea how to make the necessary amendment but recreating the directory structure worked perfectly. _________________ Regards
