Do any of you know what software I can use to wipe clean an old pc without getting rid of the operating system.

Have asked my IT guru. He says there isn't anything that will do it automatically. There is software that will completely wipe stuff but you HAVE to know what you are deleting.

Given my totally non-technicalese standpoint I get alan to do it and reinstall windows! Although I do believe there's 2 ways - if you had set a Restore point you should be able to go back to this (newer PCs only - think it's a Windows XP thing) or alternatively (and probably more safely!) I think PC World does this service.

You should partition the hard drive and format it. Make sure you partition a bit to put all the system files youn require for your operating system and then don't format that bit. If you search help it will give you instructions. If you are geting rid of it does it matter if you leave an operating system on it? I would also suggest if you don't know which program files you should save then you should get someone else to do it! Make sure you do a full format and not a quick one.
