Our bookkeeper Lynsey is about to sprog (must be something in the water!) and we're having a babyshower - any good advice for games, organising, pressies, food etc? _________________ To support SVA please donate to: http://tinyurl.com/37urec |

Good luck to both Lynsey and Clare.
Being someone who has had two children I had a baby shower when I left my "full-time job" the girlies all took me out to lunch and then I had a big presentation around my desk which was covered in banners, ballons and dummies hanging from the ceiling.
We had cake and the pressies considered of things from clothes, blankets, bibs, ready made formula, dummies (obviously), pressure sound mat so I could tell if the baby stopped breathing, smellies for myself (people always forget about the mum), also a maternity pamper session which invovled an neck and shoulder massage, maincure and pedicure (which was a lovely treat). I don't think you can go far wrong with baby stuff to be honest. _________________ Charlotte Burford

Some good ideas - I got a really lovely minky baby blanket (one of my friends handmakes them). Plus the usual detrius of cakes/sweeties/stuff. I'm trying to think of things which you wouldn't normally buy for yourself or that people wouldn't normally buy you (so no clothes etc).
Any advice on things you wish you had? Stuff for mum is an excellent idea! _________________ To support SVA please donate to: http://tinyurl.com/37urec |

Things I would love people to buy me right now are:
Bath smellies
Cooling foot lotion/foot soak
Chocolates
A good book
Some good DVDs to watch while waiting for baby to arrive
And something to look forward to after baby gets here, like tickets to a show in 3 months time, a table booked at a restaurant or a makeover something like that
For food, you need to avoid all the things mums to be can't eat like cheesecake, liver pate, soft cheese, shellfish etc.
For baby, rather than clothes I would like things that are going to last a bit longer such as sleeping bags, cot toys, playmats, a Bumbo, a bouncy chair or if you buy clothes try and buy bigger sizes cos everyone buys Newborn and it lasts about a week that's if you get a chance to use it before it's too small.
Happy shopping! _________________ Clare

There is a lovely website called www.babeswithbabies.com which has some lovely gifts on it for mums to be.
Good luck to the prospective mums out there. I hope you get some pampering treats.

A cabbage and rubber ring!!
They will make everyone laugh hysterically. The rubber ring is if you have stitches and you use cabbage leaves on your boobs to cool them - it really does work.
All the best to both Lynsey and Clare. _________________ Sally

Good luck to Lynsey and Clare.
When I was looking at websites before Alexander was born, I came across this site which might give you some ideas for games http://www.jellybabys.co.uk/free_baby_shower_games.php.
I agree, with things for mum are great and baby clothes in bigger sizes, newborn and 0-3 months dont last that long, the wee man is 3 months on Thursday and has been in 3-6 months for the past few weeks now. Also have a wardrobe full of 6-9, 9-12 and even a few things beyond that
A nice shawl/blanket for the wee one, toys or how about a voucher for a photographer for the little one to get pictures at 3 month intervals. _________________ Lyndsey Gilchrist
