It passed on here without even a mention. Was only when I saw Caroline's reply about chocolate that I thought I'd ask if everyone had a good day and got anything nice?

I bought my wife a card (actually 2, my mother in law left the first one in the shop) and the new John Barrowman book.

Our son spent the night before Valentine's Day at his nan's house (thanks mother-in-law!) so my husband and I went out for a lovely meal. On Valentines Day I received some lovely carnations which were still in bud (so they'll last longer) and a beautiful card.

I also got a card and flowers.

We had planned on getting a take-away on the evening but my husband came home from work feeling sick and with crippling stomach cramps so I ate dinner with my son!

My dear husband 'forgot' about Valentines Day this year.

Oh he knew it was coming, but said that I knew he loved me so why should he have to buy flowers/choc/card to prove it. Shocked

Because I'm a woman!!!!! That's why!
Of course, I'd spent an hour making a lovely Valentines Card for him!

He went out to play football like he does every Thursday night, and when he returned home actually had the audacity to wonder why there were only 6 players instead of 14 that night. Maybe because some of them actually celebrated Valentine's day with their other half.

My dear daughter made up for it though, she had made lovely little cards for all of us (best Mummy, best little brother and best Dad)

I have mine well trained now - taken a good many years but it has paid off.

What the bah humbug brigade fail to understand is that the gestures don't need to cost a fortune or make a huge statement. Just a small thing that will be appreciated whether it is flowers, choccies, bottle of wine, book by favourite author - whatever. It shows you care enough to make a special effort. It also goes both ways ladies - you need to show the man in your life that he isn't taken for granted.

By far the worst is "I used to but haven't lately". This doesn't bode well because "lately" is probably about 6 years and they just haven't noticed how long it has been since they made an effort.

My husband and I bought each other cards. We don't buy each other for Valentines as I just think it's a rip-off. This year our daughter bought us a card and we bought her one. She was absolutely thrilled to bits when she saw she had a card to open. That look on her face was worth a million times more than a bunch of flowers Very Happy

I made my husband and two son's a valentines card each, with the help of nursery Matthew made a card for all of us and my husband made me a card with all the things we have done in the past 9 years printed on the inside - it was so personal it was lovely.

Aaaah. How heartwarming. Mine gave me a rude card, and fell asleep in front of the telly at 8.30 pm!!! I switched off the boring programme he was watching (probably why he fell asleep), and put one of my favourite DVDs on (Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein), and giggled my way through it whilst finishing off the bottle of wine I'd bought!

I have to forgive him though - getting me a card requires quite a bit of planning because we live miles from any shops, and the poor dear is gearing up to lambing so he's out VERY early!

My bloke works away all week so we left valentines day until today. I got a lovely card (although I did sit next to him when he wrote it out!) and he bought me an MP3 player. He even loaded some really good tunes on it. When I start up my office is a short walk from my apartment so he said I could listen to music whilst I walk to work.

He's great......sometimes!

We went out to dinner, but no cards, they're just a rip off. Hubby always puts a scrolling marquee on the computer screen wishing me happy whatever, before he goes to work.
