My son, Jake has just gone off to proper nursery for the first time. Very strange. He was so excited and couldn't wait to go inside which is a good sign. Dropped him off at 1pm and he is there until 3:30 unless I get a phone call to pick him up and so far so good, no phone call.
When you get there all their names are out on a table and when they arrive they have to put their name in the post box to say they are there. Jake chose his name right the first time. I don't know if it was fluke or because at the childminder they were taught their name so they'd recognise it. They then put their fruit that you have to take in each time and put it in a basket next to the names. I gave Jake some grapes but he put them in the postbox with his name! _________________ Yvette Segal

Yvette,
Sounds like he had fun and that there was no need to worry, and you will get a couple of hours peace too _________________ Lyndsey Gilchrist

Thanks Jo.
Yes Lyndsey, it was lovely and peaceful. He needs the stimulation of nursery as he gets bored here at home with me. _________________ Yvette Segal

Ah proud Mum!
It's a lovely feeling (and a bit strange at the same time) when they feel comfortable to go off and explore without you. You want them to enjoy themselves but at the same time you realise they're growing up and they're not your baby any more.
My daughter starts school in September and that feels very strange indeed! _________________ Angela Dawson

That must be even more strange when they start school. At the moment Jake only goes 2 afternoons but must be strange when they go off full time. _________________ Yvette Segal

Tell me about it I'm waiting to hear what school we've been allocated, I think we find out at the beginning of March.
I must admit when I thought about it the other day I got butterflies in my tummy. Elize was asking me to keep her Mary costume in case she's Mary again in her nativity play. I explained that she would be in 'big school' by the time Xmas comes round again and that I wasn't sure if they did a nativity play. She seems quite excited at the thought of going to school, but that could change nearer the time! _________________ Angela Dawson

That's good Elize is excited. Hopefully she will stay that way.
Hopefully you'll get your first choice of school. _________________ Yvette Segal

My son wouldn't hear that he was leaving pre-school to go to big school - maybe he thought if he didn't take it on board it wouldn't happen. When it came to the first day he was desperate to get there and he's doing really well. _________________ Regards

Children are funny creatures. The child I thought would have trouble settling at school just breezed it; my other child, who is much more fearless, cried a lot and had trouble settling. _________________ Sally

It's funny, you just don't know how they will be. Hopefully Jake will continue enjoying nursery. I thought he would be ok because he went to the creche at my work when I temporarily went back part time and for a couple of months he went to a childminder for a bit and he was fine at both of those although at the beginning he was a bit funny. But this time he was happy from the start.
To be honest I think it was quite a relief for him to get away from me for a bit! He has probably been bored at home and is very demanding and I have been losing my patience a bit so think he needs the break from me too! _________________ Yvette Segal

My first day at school was pretty traumatic. My mum was a working mother and had to go to work so she told me to go with my big sister and she would follow. She lied! When we got to school I wouldn't go inside and clung to the railings screaming my head off until the headmistress eventually came out and coaxed me inside. Once inside I saw all the lovely colourful posters, toys and books and was in my element. When I got home in the evening my mum asked me how I'd got on. I said it was lovely and I'm going again tomorrow! Oh happy days.
