We got our new laptop about a month ago which has Vista on it. So far no problems but I suppose it is early days.

My new PC crashed on me last night (Vista) but then hubbys crashed too, which uses XP. Think we discovered the cause - Norton Anti Virus possibly did something whacky, either that or it was our Nvidia graphics drivers. Hubby is my technical guru and he's now out earning a crust. Gave up at 1.30am with machines seemingly working OK but am still a little nervous. Thankfully I'm still using old PC too, so am not completely stranded. _________________ Sally

I had trouble with Norton doing strange things to my computer, and changed to AVG. AVG Free is fine, but I bought one of the packages as it covered three computers for anti-virus, anti-spam, and anti-hacking/phishing. It up-dates itself regularly during the course of the day, and you can program it to do whole system scans at regular intervals. Best of all, nothing strange has happened to my computer since I removed Norton and installed AVG.

It's for this very reason that I uninstalled Norton from every new computer that I have straight away, as I had nothing but bother with it on my old computer. Avast is completely free as well, updates itself when new updates become available and covers Instant Messaging, Internet Mail, the Web etc etc and can also be set to do a scan. Since I have (I think) IE7 installed on new PC, it's got inbuilt phishing filters, pop-up blockers etc and the google toolbar has this on as well, so double whammy. Can't be too careful as I'm a bit paranoid because of my 2 friends' recent experiences.

| Warning - AVG is not failsafe! We use it to scan incoming mail and disable normal viruses. But we also do additional Ad-Aware scans which often pick up infections and spyware which AVG have missed. |

Thanks Caroline.
I assume I can run AVG and Ad Aware together? _________________ Carole Meyrick
