Hi everyone

There are so many online resources for employment contract templates. Is there any particular company / resource that you can recommend please? I need to be preparing contracts for a small business owner employing staff, not complicated but must be legal. There are so many to choose from, I would prefer a recommendation if anyone has one.

Many thanks,

Alyson

Hi Alyson

Personally when it comes to employing someone, I would have worked with an HR company to make sure the contracts were correct, rather than adapt something from the internet.

It means spending money initially, but given all the legal side and ongoing changes to employment law, would probably work out cheaper in the long run if something went wrong.

I can certainly recommend an HR company if you need to speak with someone (based in Cornwall but they do work virtually like we do).

Thanks Dawn. I am advising a client and have details of an HR outsource company that does the contracts, helpline, insurance etc as a package, which is personally the way I think he should go. But, if he doesn't want to I am now looking at some specialised contracts for his industry, which I have had checked out by a friend who is an HR director. Will be meeting this client later and will make my recommendations, but I don't know yet which budget option he will go for, so am looking at the best of both. Thanks for your help - your instinct is the same as mine!

Hi Alyson

If he wants the 'cheaper' option it may be worth looking at http://simply-docs.co.uk/Employment_Documents

He would need to pay to join (£35 + VAT) but he would be able to download any number of times during 12 months and I do thnk the contracts etc are kept up to date. However, there is a little bit of 'buyer beware' in them in that they are generic, with a 'fill in the gaps' sort of process, and would need to be carefully checked over to ensure the correct information is entered.

Thanks Dawn, those are the ones I have had checked out by my HR Director friend. Also Business Link is helpful, so I think I have covered all viable options!

Also the FSB has templates you can use if you are a member... Definitely an important thing to get right!
