What a day we have had in the Greig household!!!

Our 18 year old daughter spent most of the morning trying to access the UCAS website to find out her A level results. After many, many, many attempts she finally got them - 2 A's and 1 E (just 7 points off a D). She is now waiting to find out if she has done enough to get a place at Queens University, Belfast - our best uni over here - it is marked as 'decision pending' and could take up to next Thursday before a final decision is made. In the meantime she has registered for a similar course at the local College which is a two year HND course with the third year finishing from Queens thereby still giving her the chance to gain a Degree.

Wheeew that's one down, one to go.

Our 17 year old son also got his AS level results today and has achieved what he needs to return to Upper 6th to complete his A levels! But now he has to start choosing University courses - how are we going to survive - oohh - my husband has just come in with a glass of something red to help us celebrate/survive!!!

To any of you who have kids getting results today - CHEERS

Yes I heard on the radio that the website had problems.

Well done the Greig household!!

Hope your daughter gets her place OK.

Unfortunately not - they turned her down - but as they say, when one door closes another one opens.

She has secured a place at the local College (Tech) for a 2 year HND course in Performing Arts. Then in the third year she can transfer to Queens University and graduate with a BA from there - so still the same result, just a different road taken!!!

She is a bit down about it but hopefully when she starts on 5th September she will be her bright bubbly self.

Well it's good there is an alternate route - personally I think doing the HND is a smart thing because it'll be unit-based so she could transfer lots of those into something else if she decides a different route, and it's not all one long hard slog for the final exams, she gets qualifications along the way!

You're right there. That was one of her concerns about Uni as the course was definitely more academic based, whereas the College is more production based. I think it will be better for her.

Will let you know how she gets on.

She will be fine, the practical nature of a HND will surely be beneficial and will learn more in the long term - while academic is good, practical is essential in my opinion. Learning by doing is best.
