I've spoken before about taking the time to tell loved ones how much they mean to you whilst plotting your way to world domination. Well, the unthinkable happened a few days ago. My mum, who has been a complete rock for me through the years, had a massive stroke and died several days later without recovering consciousness. Thankfully I got to see her and say my goodbyes even if she couldn't respond.
Unfortunately as she was at the other end of the country I never got to see her as often as either of us would have liked. If I had known how short her time was I would have done things differently.
So don't wait until it is too late. On this Mother's Day remember to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, you may not get another opportunity. _________________ Sally

Sorry to read your news, Sally.
It's a timely post as I spoke to my mum on the phone yesterday about our plans to go there for our monthly dinner next Sunday. When I mentioned it was Mother's Day and it was great that both her daughters and her grandson would be with her she made it clear, albeit gently, that she was unimpressed to have to cook for everyone. After we finished chatting I rang my sister and then booked a table at a restaurant. When I rang her and told her the change of plan she was delighted.
Mums are a vital support and I hope you can find some comfort over the coming weeks and months. _________________ Regards

I am really sorry to hear about your mum Sally - the same thing happened to me in 1999, on Mother's Day as well!
Mum went to work at 8:30 (in a local village store) and had a heart attack and died at 10:30 at work. I was actually on my way to Wales as a surprise visit that day.
Hubby and I now try and see his mum and step-mum as often as we can should the unthinkable happen again.

Sally, I am genuinely sorry for your loss.
I lost my own mother 4 years ago (she had a 6 year battle wth cancer). Then last year we lost my mother-in-law - totally unexpectedly. We had her here for dinner on Mothers Day, it was also our son's 16th birthday, my husband drove her home and said goodnight - that was the last time he spoke to her. Unfortunately two days later he called at her home and found she had passed away.
When someone is taken from us - either suddenly, or even if you are expecting it, you are never really prepared for the emptiness.
I agree with Sally and Dawn - enjoy every precious minute with all your loved ones - you don't get a second chance. _________________ Heather Greig

Thank you Heather. All still very raw.
Coping with your mother's illness must have been very hard for you. I hope she passed away peacefully. _________________ Sally

Hugs Sally, we're still coming to terms with losing our daughter last year and so I can relate to the pain you feel. We feel that our only consolation was that we got to say goodbye.
I tell everyone who I am close to that I love them, it's not meant to be over familiar, I just want people to know that they mean a great deal to me and also if no one else ever tells them, I know that they know how I feel about them.
Thinking of you x

Emily that must have been so hard to bear. Every parent's worst nightmare.
Hugs to everyone who has lost a loved one. _________________ Sally

Hugs Sally - there's always so much to do when someone dies suddenly, you get caught up in it all and don't necessarily take enough time to look after yourself and spend a bit of time collecting your thoughts. Make sure you take some time out for yourself.

Thanks Carole. Funeral was on Monday. Ceremony was beautiful and it was a lovely sunny day. Now just helping to go through all her stuff.
Had to have one of my cats put down on the Saturday before the funeral too. Be glad when April is over!!! _________________ Sally

Only just seen this thread.
Oh poor you Sally. Then the cat as well. It never rains...
Going through stuff can be quite emotion-invoking; I hope it brings back special, good memories as well as being cathartic.
