For those of you who enjoyed Songs of Praise Live from Peterborough in May, watch BBC1 NOW! The first of two recorded services is being shown. _________________ Regards

Lynn, so sorry I missed this. Hope to catch the second one!
Meant to say that a clip from the previous SOP at your church was shown at ours a few weeks later, together with a recording of a discussion Chris Moyles had on his radio show with others in the studio. He appeared quite knocked out by it.
For all those who are really surprised that this is more like what church looks like these days (apart from some more trad places), I do encourage you to check out your own local Community Church or evangelical charismatic Anglican church, go along and see for yourself. There's a website called Find a Church which would be a good starting point: http://www.findachurch.co.uk/home/home.php
Some of you mentioned about playgrounds being locked on Sundays etc in some parts of Scotland. I sympathised with your comments because it gives an impression of 'religion' rather than 'faith'. It's complex and I need to do a bit more study of it, but I think people (who are only human, after all) have got it a bit wrong and that tradition has sometimes overcome what's really at the heart of things. Jesus said that the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath - and the sabbath he was talking about was the Jewish one, ie: Saturday. The early Christians called Sunday 'the Lord's Day' and although they met together then, they would also have had to work as it wasn't the national day off - their weekly day off for rest and worship was still Saturday at that time.
Time to get down from my pulpit, switch off my computer and turn my attention to dinner! _________________ Janet |

Hi Janet
Thanks for your comments. We were very suprised by Chris Moyles' reaction and the amount of airtime he gave to it but it was great to hear Christianity discussed on mainstream radio, even if he did get a bit confused in some areas! Church certainly doesn't have to be the boring experience I remember going to when I was child.
If you missed Songs of Praise and are interested it is available on BBC iPlayer until Sunday. As an aside I was at the recording of this one and appear three times in panning shots - no close ups :) . _________________ Regards
