I've not twittered...

I've heard of twitter or twittering and am asking the following as a "twitter dummy"

How much time do you spend doing this?
What are the benefits to you?
What are the benefits to others?

Just wondered :)

I signed up and then felt totally lost - I can't even tell you my Twitter name. Are there any Idiot's Guides to get you started?

Hi

Lynn I totally understand you, for some it takes getting used, but its really just like texting, but with only 140 characters

You really don't have to spend too much time on twitter.

I have it in the background for about an hour in the morning and then log out, I may log in later in the day of evening.

The benefit of using twitter really depends on what you want to get out of it. I believe its different for everybody. But in general it can be to collaborate & network with others, connect with your target market, increase your visibility and credibility, drive traffic and so on

Have a go sign up and watch how others use it. There are a few SVA members on twitter so it would be nice to see some more.

Um. I'm being really thick here, but I don't understand twitter, or the point of all these social networking sites that I am constantly being invited to join.

Can someone help? I'm feeling very OLD now, and almost past it!

Twitter is a bit odd. No10 Downing Street are following me! What do you think they want :?

I only joined yesterday but it works a bit like the old forums where you have to keep refreshing. I know I will get addicted though as I have Twitter Berry on my phone and can check out tweets on the move. A recipe for trouble no doubt :(

I suppose it's the same as all of them, if you keep at it and say enough interesting stuff someone may give you some work. It does look a little more personal than business though.

I haven't decided if I like it or not though and mixing people from the different forums I visit is a little bit weird as I tend to keep people in boxes in my mind and now everyone has jumped into the same box!!

I did get a personal tweet assistant pop up in my DM box saying he would show me around but I haven't checked it out yet. Also UKBL have an idiots guide. I'll try and dig it out.

@emilyrobe

Twitter is a dreadful time thief :( but I find it very useful. I have gained work from it and lots of business research.

It's very good for sharing information, getting the inside scoop and meeting like minded individuals.

If you want to follow someone worthwhile then I wholeheartedly recommend @NikkiPilkington. She has a twitter guide somewhere on her site http://businessontwitter.co.uk/twitter/
